The ABCs of Safe Sleep
Pediatric sleep safety experts recommend the ABCs of safe sleep:
- A – Alone: Baby should sleep alone, not with parents or siblings in the same bed
- B – Back: Always place baby on their back to sleep, never on their stomach or side
- C – Crib: Baby should sleep in their own crib, bassinet, or play yard with a firm, flat surface
What Should Be in the Crib?
Keep the crib simple and safe:
- A firm, flat mattress with a fitted sheet — nothing else
- No loose blankets in the crib for babies under 12 months
- No pillows, bumpers, or positioners
- No stuffed animals in the sleeping area for newborns
When Can Baby Have a Blanket?
